This article is about the Borderlands 2 class mods. For other uses, see Class Mod.

A Gunzerker Class Mod |
Class Mods, or COMs (short for Class Optimization Modules), are influential items in Borderlands 2. They are class specific upgrades that provide benefits to the character (or the entire team) by offering a wide variety of bonuses such as amplifying a character's damage, healing, increasing character health or shield capacity, reducing reload times, increasing skill ranks, etc. Class Mod skill bonuses do stack, even if a specific skill is maxxed (5/5), up to a total maximum of 11 ranks in any skill. A skill bonus however will not function unless the character has at least 1 point invested in the specified skill. Skills currently receiving bonuses from an equipped Class Mod are outlined in cyan in the skill tree, even if no points are invested in the skill.
Class mods can be obtained in several ways throughout the game.
- They can be bought from medical vending machines.
- Found in many of the lootable objects such as: Chests, skag piles or lockers.
- As a reward from completing a mission.
- Dropped by certain enemies when they are killed.
Borderlands 2 Class Mods
Class mods in Borderlands 2 have a prefix that will note the skills given by the class mod, with the prefix determining the mandatory focus of the skill bonus. Skills that are boosted by class mods will also be shown in the skill tree selection, listing the number of bonus points from the mod and the final percentages for the skill.
The prefix (if any) always offers a bonus to the skill that it is associated with, as shown in the charts below. (For example, Maya's 'Hell Binder' class mod will always buff Helios, 'Cunning Binder,' Reaper, and 'Chrono Binder,' Suspension.) The additional skills that receive a bonus (if any) come from the class mod's pre-defined set of skills. (For example, Maya's 'Binder' class mod will always affect only Helios, Reaper, and/or Suspension.)
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep adds a set of class mods (Barbarian, Cleric, Monk, Necromancer, Ranger, and Rogue) which do not follow the above rule. The prefix on these class mods instead determines what player variables (e.g. Fire Rate, Magazine Size, etc.) are affected.
The rarity of a class mod determines how many skills it will affect:
- White - No skill bonuses
- Green - 1 skill bonus
- Blue - 2 skill bonuses
- Purple - 3 skill bonuses
- 'Legendary' and 'Slayer of Terramorphous' class mods each grant additional skill bonuses:
- Legendary - 5 or 6 skill bonuses, depending on class
- Slayer of Terramorphous - 5 skill bonuses
The level and rarity of a class mod determine the number of bonus skill points granted. The maximum number of bonus skill points at maximum level by rarity is:
- Green - +5 skill points
- Blue - +6, +5 skill points
- Purple - +5, +4, +4 skill points
- Legendary - +5, +5, +5, +5, +5, (+5) skill points
- Slayer of Terramorphous - +4, +4, +4, +4, +4 skill points
Class mods are visible on-character, seen as a signature piece of equipment on each of the characters. They are Salvador's digistruct ammo boxes, Maya's book, Axton's targeting device, Zer0's elbow blades, Gaige's lunchbox, and Krieg's sawblade.
Loyalty mods no longer exist. However, the new Allegiance Relics provide a similar function.

Alignment Class Mods
Alignment class mods are class mods only available in Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep campaign DLC. These mods give the Vault Hunters a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired title, in addition to granting bonuses based upon the mod's alignment (Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, etc.). Also, regardless of the listed alignment, these mods will always boost the same three skills for each character. Otherwise, they follow the same rules as regular mods as far as the number of skills boosted for the rarity.
Alignment Type | Affected Variable |
---|---|
Lawful | Accuracy (Up to 33%) |
Chaotic | Fire Rate (Up to 33%) |
Good | Reload Speed (Up to 45%) |
Evil | Critical Hit Damage (Up to 45%) |
Neutral | Magazine Size (Up to 45%) |
True Neutral (Double instance of Neutral Alignment) | Magazine Size (Up to 86%) |

Borderlands 2 is by no means a new game at this point, having offered up its looter-shooter goodness in its cel-shaded world for seven years now. Despite that, many players continue to hop into the game, messing with the various mods in the PC version of the game to make for an experience that keeps on giving. Here’s whether or not you can get Borderlands 2 mods on Xbox One.
Can You Get Borderlands 2 Mods on Xbox One? What You Need to Know
Unfortunately, we’ve got to be the bearers of bad news this time around. Borderlands 2 does not have mods on Xbox One.
The only way that players can alter or mess around with their gameplay experience on Xbox One is to import save files and load these up. However, this is still limited in terms of ‘modded’ content, and you won’t have any external assets to play around with this way.
If you do want to use altered save files, you’ll need an Xbox 360 in order to pull the save files from this version of the game, edit them on a PC, and then transfer them over to the Xbox One.
As such, if you’re looking to really sink your teeth into Borderlands 2 and its many different mods, you’ll want to check out the PC version. There are a ton of different mods that players can make use of. The Unofficial Community Patch, for example, makes over 450 changes and fixes to the base game to offer the definitive experience.
Similarly, players can check out a SweetFX mod to help spruce up the visuals, or download the Third Person Mod for… well… playing in a third-person perspective. You can check out our picks for the best Borderlands 2 mods you can’t play without here, too.
That’s pretty much everything you need to know regarding whether or not you can get Borderlands 2 mods on Xbox One.
Hopefully, we’ll get full mod support for consoles in Borderlands 3 when that releases later this year. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
The following are Class mods specific to the Siren:
User: Ben Chu Ovier note: The descriptive word before the class mod name tends to describe the type of skill it will boost like bullet= skills like kinetic reflection.
Mod | Bonuses |
---|---|
Banshee | Increases shield recharge rate, Decrease shield recharge delay |
Binder | Raises team action skill cool down rate User: Ben Chu Ovier note- Manufactured by Maliwan Uncommon=Green boosts Suspension skill Custom action bars addon wow. Rare=Blue boosts Suspension and Reaper skills Example: Lvl 18 (Blue) Cunning Binder +15% Cooldown rate +3 Reaper +2 suspesnion Lvl 18 (Green) Chrono Binder +14% Cooldown rate +2 Suspension |
MG accuracy | |
Fox | Raises the burn chance and burn damage |
Matriarch | Increases maximum health and magazine size |
Nurse | Team health regeneration |
Trickster | Higher fire rate with weapons User: Ben Chu Ovier note- Manufactured by Vladof Rare=Blue level class mods will involve boosting the skills kinetic reflection and chain reaction. Examples: Lvl 17 (Blue) Mirrored Trickster +15% FIre Rate +3 Kinetic Reflection +2 Chain Reaction Lvl 17 (Blue) Blurred Trickster +19% Fire Rate +2 Kinetic Reflection +3Chain Reaction Oddly a Lvl 18 (Blue) Blurred Trickster mod I found with +17% Fire adds 3 to Kinetic Reflection and 2 to Life tap Now what may be better fire rate wise may not aid to as much to what skills you're investing in. Happy character building guys! ^^ |
Warder | Increases shield capacity |
Witch | Increases corrode chance and corrode damage User: Ben Chu Ovier note- Manufactured by Maliwan Certain modes will help with the skill tree motion but this is may be because the motion skill aids with overall crowd control and various gun use therefore adding to special weapons elemental damage but I am working on a cataclysm heavy build so how this pairs with the third tier cloud kill skill is highly useful. Ex of item: Lvl 17 (Green)Bullet Witch Corrode chance +22% Corrode damage +23% +2 Kinetic reflection. |
Notes from User Ben Chu Ovier: I'm currently researching and adding details for players who are recently getting into Borderlands 2 like I am and are deep planners.
- Keep in mind certain class mods that boost the number of skill points invested in a skill require at least one point to be placed towards the skill. This has affected how I build my classes. Example: I'm building a Siren class that is Cataclysm skill tree heavy therefore I want to boost the skills I use but certain mods will help with damage boost towards certain elemental effects I rely heavily on but boost a skill that I'm currently not speced into so whether or not you have a class mod that helps with what you're buidling towards partly; it is up to you to keep or play on without.
- I recommend saving valuable storage space for items with a rare=Blue or higher rarity level; Blue<Purple<Orange the rarity level will boost more skills. Uncommon=green items boost one skill; blue two; purple three.
